OTHER ORE

Everyday Luxe Demi-Fine Jewelry that is Distinct. Different. Other. You.

Meet The Founder

For Sheryl Maloney, creativity has always been about working with her hands. As a little girl growing up In Michigan, she spent hours in her dad’s basement workshop, feeding logs into the tiny wood stove while watching him meticulously refurbish vintage golf clubs and handcraft new ones. There, she learned how to work with metal, use tools with precision, and appreciate the artistry of fine craftsmanship.

Years later, after a career in tech and sportswear, Sheryl found herself searching for a tactile, hands-on way to channel her creative energy. At the height of the pandemic, somewhere between endless corporate Zoom calls, she rediscovered the the zen of craftmanship, that her dad Instilled In her, and started making jewelry. Now, in a twist of irony that isn’t lost on her, she spends her days in her own basement studio in Portland, Oregon, handcrafting pieces that blend intricacy, edge, and everyday wearability.

What started as a personal creative outlet quickly turned into Other Ore, an everyday luxe demi-fine jewelry brand designed to empower self-expression. Today, Sheryl designs, assembles, and photographs every piece, ensuring that Other Ore stays true to its mission, modern, wearable jewelry that’s as bold, intricate, and unique as the people who wear it. Because jewelry should reflect you, not define you.

Sustainable Jewelry, Inspired by the Earth

The Earth offers infinite beauty, but her resources are precious and limited. Other Ore was founded with a deep respect for craftsmanship and sustainability—values shaped by our founder’s upbringing in an iron ore mining town, where she saw firsthand the lasting impact of human industry.

That’s why we are committed to sustainable practices in both our packaging and materials, we are working to partner with suppliers who share our vision for a cleaner future. As we continue to grow, our ultimate goal is to transition to 100% recycled metals, ensuring that every piece of jewelry honors both style and sustainability.

Wear jewelry that reflects you—without leaving a heavy footprint.

Here Us when WE say this...

BE DIFFERENT. BE DISTINCT. BE OTHER. BE YOU.

Because nothing feels worse than being told to fit in when you were born to stand out. Nothing stings more than being asked to dim your light, tone it down, or hide who you truly are. No one should be told their dreams are out of reach or feel like they are being othered out of the room.

At Other Ore, we’re here to take back the word "other", to strip it of exclusion and redefine it as a celebration of individuality. To be other is to be bold, to be unapologetically unique, to carve your own path.

So, wear what makes you feel powerful, limitless, and fully YOU, because that’s where the real magic happens.

We Ride Hard For Portland

Let’s be real, Portland’s reputation has seen better days, but we’re not ones to bail when things get tough. This city has given us our start. It’s where our roots are, where our kids were born, and where creativity runs as wild as the forests that surround it. There’s no place like it.

Nestled between the mountains, the desert, and the sea, Portland is a raw, untamed wonderland, a city of makers, risk-takers, and rule-breakers. Its people have embodied our ethos long before Other Ore existed, and we’re here to ride with them through every chapter, including its inevitable comeback story.

Because Portland isn’t just where we create, it’s who we are.

Brand Identity

What's the Deal with Those Pellets?

Fun fact: "Ore" in Other Ore isn’t about Oregon—it’s a nod to the iron ore mining town in Michigan where our founder grew up. Those bluish-purple pellets you see in our branding? They’re real iron ore pellets, the same kind that used to tumble off mining train cars and land between the railroad ties. As a kid, she’d collect them like treasure, convinced she was striking it rich. A big dreamer then and now.

And the "Other"? That’s about being different, standing out, embracing your own kind of cool. Her mom always told her she was one-of-a kind, and she thinks you are too. Other Ore is for those who don’t care to blend in, because your jewelry should reflect just how rare and remarkable you are.
